Abstract
During the last decade a new value creation approach has evolved: co-creation. This paper investigates the effects of co-creation on consumers who are not actively involved in the value creation process. With an online experiment it can be shown that consumers evaluate co-creating brands relatively more positive and associate the co-created product with higher quality and innovativeness. Further, the consumers are willing to pay a price premium. Generally, consumers have a positive attitude towards companies that collaboratively develop products with consumers. Thus, co-creation offers numerous opportunities to enhance a brand’s value and the consumers’ perception of a company and its products.
