Small in Size, Big in Value
Qatar is a very small country with large oil revenues. Its population is about 700,000 and the total GDP is US $28.5 bn. Although total oil reserves are somewhat modest in comparison to other Persian Gulf countries, Qatar is one of the largest natural-gas producers worldwide. Native Qataris have one of the highest per capita incomes in the world. Thus, the country's economy has been dependent on oil revenues for decades; the foodservice industry has been growing due to the growing tourism industry and the growing number of expatriates.
